Now it serves as a museum and is a point of pride for the village. Rodanthe is also known from the novel Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks and a movie with the same title. Rodanthe is also one of the best surfing spots on the Outer Banks. If you never tried kite boarding, there are several schools on the island and one of them is just across the street. Another place worth visiting is Pea Island Wild Life Refuge where you can enjoy watching over 370 species of birds.
